Pelvic Floor Physical Therapy
-
All genders suffer from urinary incontinence for a variety of reasons β having/delivering children, surgeries, aging muscles and tissues, back injuries, prostatitis, and functional limitations, just to name a few.
We work with you to get to the root of the issue. No one should have to live their lives in a panicked search for a restroom every new place they go, embarrassed about having to use urinary incontinence pads, or fearful of jumping on a trampoline β let us help you get back to living.
-
We all poop β and some of us do it without intending to. We know it can be embarrassing and uncomfortable to talk about this with another person, but there are numerous options available to help make sure this doesn't happen.
Fecal incontinence can happen for a multitude of reasons β ranging from diet to cancer treatments/radiation to muscular weakness β pelvic floor physical therapy can address these issues and help you improve your quality of life.
-
This happens predominately to women β around 30%, to be exact. This is where the ligaments and tissues that support your pelvic organs lengthen, and the organ starts to push down onto the pelvic floor creating a pressure sensation or a physical bulge through the vaginal opening. Things that increase the likelihood of this occurring include long stages of pushing during childbirth, history of constipation, age, and hormonal changes, conditions that cause ligamentous laxity, and genetic components.
Consult us to understand what conservative treatment options are available to you.

Vulvodynia is chronic pain around the entrance of the vagina that can present with a burning sensation with or without physical pressure. Often, women experiencing this cannot wear any compressive clothing, have trouble sitting, and have pain with intercourse. Working with a pelvic floor physical therapist can help folks experiencing Vulvodynia.
Other advice includes β wearing loose clothing, always wearing 100% cotton underwear, only using unscented and βcleanβ products while bathing, and using special pelvic floor cushions while sitting.
-
Endometriosis is a condition where the endometrium grows outside of the uterus β most commonly found on the ovaries, fallopian tubes, and lining of the pelvis. This can lead to pelvic organs adhering together and infiltration into the muscles and nerves β leading to dysfunction and pain. It's the leading cause of infertility, and it takes most women 8 years to be diagnosed on average. We love advocating for women experiencing Endometriosis, assisting with symptom management, and pre or post-surgical rehab β should it be needed.
-
PCOS is a condition in which the ovaries over produce the male sex hormone β androgen. The ovaries can develop an abundance of fluid filled sacs which can prevent the consistent release of eggs. Symptoms include long heavy periods, infrequent period, severe acne, excess facial/body hair, and pelvic floor dysfunction. While PCOS cannot be cured, pelvic floor PT has been found to significantly decrease the symptoms of this dysfunction β improving physical health β which has shown to improve menstrual irregularities and the ovaries abilβs ability to ovulate.

All genders can experience pelvic pain. Just like a headache, it can present as a dull ache, shooting nerve pain, inability to sit or wear tight clothing, painful intercourse, and painful urination or bowel movements. If you are experiencing symptoms like these, we're here to tell you that it's not in your head β it's real β and there is often a physical explanation for it.
We help you get to the root cause of your pelvic pain so you can get back to living.

Painful intercourse or Dyspareunia happens to a lot of people. Women who experience this are often unfortunately told that it's all in their heads, but there are physical reasons why someone experiences this most of the time. Reasons can include having muscles in a hypertonic state (won't lengthen fully during intercourse), scar tissue post-baby or surgery, too many nerve endings at the entrance of the vagina, and hormonal imbalances. Whatever the reason β your pain is real β we can help.

LS is an auto-immune disease that presents itself with painful white, patchy skin around the opening of the vagina and anus. It appears as very thin, fragile skin that is prone to tearing and scarring. This should never be left untreated because it can lead to serious sexual and urinary dysfunction.
We work with your medical provider to treat this disease. Because it usually requires different steroid prescriptions to help manage the inflammation, we provide services to help break up scar tissue and re-educate movement to this tissue.
-
As you age and go through menopause, you lose estrogen. Estrogen is the hormone that keeps your pelvic tissue plump and hydrated.
For 40% of women, as you lose estrogen, your pelvic floor muscles get thinner and lose the ability to stretch β making intercourse very painful and/or leading to a burning sensation at the entrance of the vagina.
Treatment options generally include hormone therapies in conjunction with physical therapy.
-
Research shows that physical therapy supports better outcomes before and after having gender-affirming surgeries. We support individuals who have had or are considering vaginoplasties, phalloplasties, and mastectomies.
We also treat individuals who are experiencing orthopedic pain from using chest binding techniques.
Prenatal & Postnatal Health
-
We offer a 36-week prenatal assessment for delivery prep and education. Then, you return for a 6-week postnatal pelvic floor/cesarean assessment for treatment and education on how to safely return your body to pre-pregnancy activities. Method PT wants to make this service the norm for all women to receive during and after their pregnancies β as countries do in Europe β where they have more proactive care and less incidence of long-term pregnancy-related injuries.
-
Many issues arise during pregnancy β back pain, Pubic Symphysis Dysfunction, Sacroiliac pain, and postural changes. We love helping you stay strong so that you can stay functional β continuing to work, exercise β having healthy and safe deliveries.
-
We offer pelvic floor preparation work and education to help birthing patients and their partners prepare their bodies for delivery β teaching them how to support themselves after recovering from a birth that involved tearing.
-
This is one of our biggest passions. We want every postpartum parent to have access to continued care after their delivery. This can include a return to sports training, pelvic floor rehabilitation, treating urinary and fecal incontinence, breastfeeding support, and improving strength and function.
-
We specialize in treating breastfeeding issues, like engorgements, clogged ducts, mastitis, ergonomic postures for breastfeeding/pumping, and general breastfeeding education.
-
Did you know that getting treated within 24 hours with manual and ultrasound techniques will significantly reduce the need for antibiotics? We are passionate about preventing and actively treating mastitis, and we reserve emergency spots 6 days a week to get women treated as soon as possible.
Male Pelvic Health
-
Many reasons contribute to men suffering from pelvic pain. β having tight and overworked pelvic floor musculature, hernias, interstitial cystitis, and prostate-related issues. Some symptoms of pelvic dysfunction that you may be experiencing are β
abdominal/pelvic pain
burning and itching in the groin/buttocks area
painful intercourse or ejaculation
testicular pain
and pain with urination or defecation.
-
This musculoskeletal disorder causes pain, burning, numbness, and tingling in the pelvis or genitals. It can occur from overactive pelvic floor musculature that compresses the pudendal nerve, hip or back pathologies, history of being a cyclist, or physical trauma. It can range in severity but generally limits your ability to sit, exercise, have pain-free urination or bowel movements, or have sexual intercourse. Once we figure out the underlying cause, there are different manual and therapeutic techniques to decrease possible compression β improving the nerveβs ability to heal and reduce pain.
-
Men suffer from urinary incontinence for a variety of reasons β age, weakened pelvic floor muscles, or it can be a result of surgeries for the bowels, bladder, or prostate.
We work with you to get to the root of the issue. You shouldnβt have to live your life in a panicked search for a restroom every new place you go or be embarrassed about having to use urinary incontinence pads or adult diapersβlet us help you get back to living.
-
This is a disease of the prostate that can start from bacteria from urine making its way into the prostate. This can lead to infection, pain, or an immune system over-activation. While this can get better on its own β it sometimes requires antibiotics. It can often be confused with or lead to chronic pelvic pain. Schedule an appointment with us to assess and treat these corresponding musculoskeletal issues.
-
As men age β their prostates continue to grow. For some, this may lead to prostate cancer, and for others, it can lead to difficulty with urination. The urethra has to travel through the prostate, which can compress and decrease the ability of urine to leave the bladder β leading to urinary retention, bladder urgency, and frequency.
Pelvic floor PT will help with bladder retraining, and manual work will create more space around the bladder and prostate, allowing better emptying. It can be highly effective and decrease the need to rely on medication or possible medical procedures.
-
This surgery is a partial or full removal of the prostate and can be done in a variety of ways β with some men requiring some type of radiation procedure. This can damage the pelvic floor musculature and the pelvic organs.
If this happens, you may start to suffer from urinary incontinence, sexual dysfunction, and/or pain. We highly encourage all men to schedule physical therapy after their surgery to help with their recovery β preventing issues from occurring. It is considered best practice to receive PT after orthopedic surgeries β and this is no different.
-
This is a physical condition that limits your ability to maintain an erection long enough for sexual intercourse. Most people are surprised to learn that physical therapy has a very high success rate in treating this condition. With specific pelvic floor strengthening techniques and lifestyle modifications, your quality of life can improve without needing medications.
Orthopedic Conditions
-
Our philosophy is to treat the whole body to effectively understand what is happening within a joint. We donβt just focus on the joint that presents with symptomsβwhich is the way insurance companies often would like us to treat. We like to address the joints above, below, and, in some cases, beyond that. Itβs the only way to find the true root of the problem.
-
We provide physical therapy before surgery to help strengthen and improve joint mobility, which research has proven to be key to improving post-op outcomes.
Our post-op rehab is a comprehensive program that includes manual therapy, joint mobilizations, and a personalized exercise regimen. We are dedicated to helping you achieve your maximum potential and personal goals.
-
Muscles and joints protect the nervous system. Therefore, addressing the nervous system first can often lead to targeting the source of the problem, which helps to expedite the rehabilitation process. This can be helpful for thoracic outlet syndrome, numbness and tingling, burning pain, sciatic nerve pain, trigeminal neuralgia, pudendal nerve pain, etc.
-
Did you know that a lack of organ mobility can hinder musculoskeletal function? This is often the missing link in treating orthopedic conditions.
We are trained in assessing and treating the structural relationship β which are fascial and ligamentous attachments β between the organs and their musculoskeletal counterparts. Freeing up restrictions can improve organ function and restore mobility.
This is a very helpful technique when dealing with conditions conditions such as low back pain, pelvic pain, shoulder pain, endometriosis, irritable bowel syndrome, after a motor vehicle accident etc.
-
Neural Manipulation examines mechanical relationships between the cranium/spine hard frame to the dura and neural elements. It provides assessment and treatment approaches to address restrictions of the dural and neural components not commonly focused on with musculoskeletal symptoms.
This can be helpful for headaches, migraines, neuralgias, concussions, car accidents, whiplash, falls, sports injuries, post-stroke recovery, vagus nerve dysfunction, anxiety, etc.
-
Neurological Conditions
Headaches, migraines, and concussions
At Method, we believe in a holistic approach to patient care. When addressing headaches, migraines, and concussions, we like to incorporate the whole patientβs history β addressing the body as a whole.
Different reasons can trigger headaches and migraines. Physical therapy can be very helpful when the trigger has a mechanical origin. Examples β previous car accidents, concussions, surgeries, dental work, skull fractures, falls, epidural injection, any nerve injuries, etc.
When headaches are due to hormonal imbalances, we like to refer our patients back to their primary care provider or we may suggest use of alternative medicine techniques such as working with a naturopath.
